Excited and energetic about sustainable investing as always!

It’s the lazy hazy days of summer, but we here at Till Investors are just as excited and energetic about sustainable investing as always. Through our various activities, we have the unique opportunity to talk both with sustainable investors and sustainable professionals and watch the way the two groups are coming together to create new ways to money.

Teaching – and Learning About – Sustainable Investors.

In mid-August, Till Investors’ cofounder Kylelane Purcell collaborated with Janine Firpo of Invest for Better to lead a program for women investors on sustainable stock investing. Sharing our perspectives and tools on sustainable investing is fantastic fun, and we’re always looking to do more education for more people. Keep your eye out for more programs like this in the fall – and contact us if your group would be interested.

The McDonald’s McGuffin

The best part about these education programs is the window we get into what investors really care about, and why. Just one example from the Invest for Better program: one of the attendees works in the nonprofit space and has a particular passion for health and nutrition. She recently inherited stock holdings from her father, and despite explaining her views to his advisor, she was horrified to discover that McDonald’s was part of her portfolio.

This is one of the core tenets of our book: your values matter. The money you invest has an impact, and no one should be required to invest in a company that is such a poor fit for your personal values.

This Month’s Blog: Value, Values, and More Values.

Sustainable investors talk a lot about values, but what exactly do they mean? Sometimes the conversation gets muddled by different perspectives on what kind of values are important when it comes to money.

This month’s blog clears up the confusion. We discuss three definitions of “values” that are relevant to investors, and how sustainable investors can make the most sense of the values conversations. Plus, the blog includes a link to a cool tool from think2perform that can really help your decision making.

Meanwhile at Equities.com…

Till Investors cofounder Kylelane Purcell has started a new column at Equities.com, a site dedicated to news, ideas, and tools for sustainable investors. The column is a bridge between the professional investors we engage with and the individual investors that care about sustainability.

This week’s column focuses on recent changes that reduce the government’s ability to hold companies accountable – which puts more pressure on investors to play that role. The piece includes insights from Rachel Robasciotti, the head of Adasina Social Capital. Robasciotti is a pioneer in researching, rating, and investing in companies that are social and racial justice leaders.
